So many people are against zoos and say that they are unethical.
The first reason that zoos are looked down upon is because they believe that they are just in captivity for people’s enjoyment. While it is enjoyable to see the cute little animals run around, that is not the only reason they are in a zoo. A lot of times animals are put in zoos because they need protection or veterinary care, and its just a plus that the public gets to see the animals while they get help. A lot of zoos work only on donations, so it proves they are not exploiting the animals just for money.
Another thing that people against zoos are saying is that zoos are too small for these animals and they do not have enough room to roam around like they would in the wild. Most animals in captivity have been born into it so they do not know better. Also it’s not like they are locked up in tiny jail cells with nothing around, they have grass and trees and whatever other environmental components they need.
The treatment of the animals is another huge issue that people have with zoos. In zoos, animals do not know when their next meal is coming, they fear for their life at all times worrying that their predator will strike at any moment, and when they do get injured they are left for dead with no help whatsoever—oh wait, nope, that is in the wild. In zoos, animals actually get treated like kings. Meals are consistent, they are protected from their enemies, and they have a veterinarian or trained professional if something does happen.
There are so many good reasons that animals are in zoos, but the people that are closed minded about the situation are not willing to hear them
